About the Ensemble
The Wallace Ensemble was founded in 2001 by Benjamin Wolf, Andrew
Morley and Hazel Cropper while they were conducting students at
Trinity College of Music. Although it usually performs as a chamber
orchestra, it has also given concerts of both symphonic and chamber
music. Highlights of the past few years have included Jewish music
concerts at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room, the inaugural
Wallace Ensemble Composition Competition, schools concerts, its
own concert series at Marylebone Parish Church and St James' Church,
Piccadilly and concerts for the Mill Hill Music Society at the
Arts Depot in Finchley. In 2007, it recorded its first CD of string
music, produced by Opera Omnia, and in 2008 it collaborated with
The Zemel Choir in its event, Celebrate With Song, at St
John's, Smith Square. It has performed a number of works by living
composers, including first performances of works by two of its
conductors (Andrew Morley and Benjamin Wolf) and pieces by Basil
Athanasiadis, David Lloyd-Mostyn, Rohan Kriwaczek, Kyla Greenbaum
and Malcolm Miller.
